Self Insurers in Tasmania are represented through an incorporated association and cover the majority of the state's largest private sector employers, who hold permits to self insure under the Workers' Rehabilitation & Compensation Act, 1988. This membership represents over 20% of the state's employment in terms of remuneration.

The association has operated for over 12 years and meets on a quarterly basis at various locations throughout the state. The association is a specialist group and as such liaises with other organisations to ensure that the underlying processes within self insurance for workers’ compensation are clearly understood and communicated to various stakeholders. The association has made submissions and representations to the regulator in relation to various aspects of self insurance that have been under review. Local nominees from the association sit on the National Council to monitor current developments nationally.

The objectives are to promote and support the best practice concepts applied by its members with WorkCover, government, unions and other community groups.
